Introduction 5 breaks the pledge that he has made with Almighty Allah— suffers loss. One who commits such an action because of the fear of the world should remember that at the time of his death no ruler or king of this world would come to procure his release. He has to present himself to the Judge of all the judges, Who will enquire of him, ‘Why did you not honour Me?’ Therefore, it is essential for all the believers to believe in Allah, Who is the King of the heavens and earth and to make a true repentance. ( Malf uza t , vol. 7, pp. 29–30) These sayings of the Promised Messiah as make it very obvious what bai‘at is. If each one of us recognises that, ‘My person does not now belong to me; I now have to abide by all injunctions of Almighty Allah under all circumstances and have to follow them faithfully, and make all acts of mine subservient to the pleasure of Allah,’ that would be a summary of the ten conditions of bai‘at. I will now present a few a ha d i th in which the subject of bai‘at is treated in different ways. ‘ A ’idhull a h Bin ‘Abdull a h ra narrates that: ‘Ub a dah Bin A s - Sa mit ra was among the Companions ra who joined the battle of Badr and also took part in bai‘at at ‘Aqabah. ‘Ub a dah Bin A s - Sa mit ra told ‘ A ’idhull a h Bin ‘Abdull a h ra that the Holy Prophet sa said at the time when a group of his Companions ra were around him: Come and take a bai‘at upon the condition:
