C ONDITIONS OF B AI ‘ AT AND R ESPONSIBILITIES OF AN A H MAD I 70 Then Allah says: 52 All praise is due to Allah, to Whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And His is all praise in the Hereafter; and He is the Wise, the All-Aware. Hadrat Ab u Hurairah ra has related that the Holy Prophet sa said, ‘Every matter of importance that is not begun with the praise of Allah remains defective. ’ Another version is: ‘Every speech that is not begun with the praise of Allah is devoid of blessings. ’ ( Sunano Ibn-e-M a jah , Abw a b-un-Nik ah , B a bu Khutbatin-Nik ah , H ad i th No. 1894. Also Sunano Ab i D a w u d , Kit a b-ul-Adab, B a b-ul-Hadyi fil Kal a m, H ad i th No. 4832) There is another h ad i th: Hadrat No‘m a n Bin Bash i r ra narrates that the Holy Prophet sa said from his pulpit, ‘He who is not grateful for small favours cannot be grateful for the bigger ones. He who cannot be thankful to men cannot render thanks for the favours of Allah. To talk about the blessings of Allah the Almighty is thankful- ness; to not mention them is ingratitude. ’ ( Musnadu Ahmadabni H a n bal , vol. 4, p. 278, printed in Beirut) Hadrat Mu‘ a dh Bin Jabal ra has related that the Holy Prophet sa held him by his hand and said, ‘Mu‘adh, I swear in the name 52.
