If you cannot comprehend these profundities and are not cognizant of their truths, then ask those who pos- sess profound wisdom and deep insight. If you cannot see your conduct with your eyes, then see it through the eyes of others; if you are deprived of rain, then seek it from the clouds of others. O wretched one! Do you not realize that your words contra- dict the manifest arguments of the Holy Quran and are against its mu h kam a t? The meaning of التوفّي [ at-tawaff i —cause to die] has been expounded clearly by the Chief of All Men and Prophet of All Jinn [the Holy Prophet s as ], and by his wise and insightful Companions. Then what value can be accorded to the meanings used by the com- mon folk when compared to the one defined explicitly by the Best of Creation ? Who can deny these meanings except the sinful? المقدّمتان ظنّیّتَین فالنتیجة ظنّیة، كما ال یخفی علی ذوي العینین. وإن كنت َ ال تفهم هذه الدقائق، وال تدرك هذه الحقائق، فسَل ِ الذین من أولي االٔبصار الرامقة، والبصائر ِ الرائقة، وانظر بعین ِ غیرك إن كنت ال تنظر بعینك في سیرك، واستنزل الري َّ من سحاب االٔغیار، إن كنت َ محرومًا من دَر ّ االٔمطار. أال تعلم یا مسكین أن قولك یُعارض بیّنات القرآن، ویخالف مُحكمات الفرقان؟ وقد تبیّن معنی التوفّي إ نس ونبي ِّ الجانّ، ال من لسان سیّد ِ ا وصحابته ذوي الفهم والعرفان. وأي ّ فضل لمعنی العوام، بعد ما حصحص المعنی من خیر االٔنام، ومَن یأباه إال من كان من الفاسقین؟
