20 Al-Fauzul-Kab i r wa Fat h ul- Khab i r, which is a commentary on the Holy Quran in light of the sayings of the Best of Creation [the Holy Prophet s as ], and is authored by H ak i mul-millah [the Sage of the faith] Shah Waliullah Dehlawi. He says, َ مُتَوَفِّیْك [ mut- awaff i ka ] means َ مُمِیْتُك [ mum- i tuka —will put you to death]. He added not a single word to this and, following the mean- ing derived from the lamp of Prophethood, he did not men- tion any other. Again, look into al-Kashsh a f [a Quranic exegesis by ‘All a mah Zamakhshari] and fear Allah and do not adopt the ways of transgression like the impertinent people. Further, you also know the doctrine held by the Mu‘tazilah sects. They do not believe in the life of Jesus, but affirm his death and make it part of their doctrine. There is no doubt that they are among the Islamic sects because the ummah divided into sects after the third century.
