18 Hadith scholars, was the first to affirm the death of Jesus as he has indicated in his S a hih. For, he placed together two verses 1 in order that they may reinforce each other and strengthen this interpretive judgement. And if you think that he did not com- bine these two separate verses with this intention, nor was his purpose to prove this belief [of Jesus’ death], then explain— if you have eyes—why did he join these two verses together? But if you explain it not—and never shall you explain it— then fear Allah and do not per- sist in pursuing the paths of the transgressors. O people of insight! Besides [ S a hih ] al-Bukh a r i, look at your authentic book, Ma jma‘ul-Bi ha r, which speaks of the differing opin- ions regarding the subject of Jesus, peace be upon him. First, 1. The referenced verses are ْيِّنِا َكْيِّفَوَتُم… (I will cause you to die– S u rah A l ‘Imr a n 3:56) and اَّمَلَف ْيِنَتْيَّفَوَت… (Since You caused me to die – S u rah al-M a ’idah, 5:118). [Publisher] فضل الباري، كان أول المقِرّین بوفاة المسیح، كما أشار إلیه في الصحیح، یتین لهذا المراد، لیتظاهرا آ ال َ فإنه جمَع ا ویحصل القوة لالجتهاد. وإن كنت یتین المتباعدتین آ ال تزعم أنه ما جمع ا إ ثبات ال لهذه النیّة، وما كان له غرض یتین آ ال هذه العقیدة، فبیِّن ْ لِم َ جمع ا ّ إن كنت َ من ذوي العینین؟ وإن لم تبیّن، ولن تبیّن، فاتّق الل ّٰ وال تُصر علی طرق الفاسقین. ثم بعد البخاري انظروا یا ذوي االٔبصار، إلی كتابكم المسلّم “مجمَع البحار”، فإنه ذكر اختالفات في أمر عیسی علیه السالم، وقدّم الحیاة
