4 أصحابه وعلی أجمعین. وصفوة أحبابه الذین كانوا له أتبَع َ مِن ظلّه، وأطوَع َ من نعله. تركوا بروق الدنیا وزینتها برؤیة لَعْلِه؛ ونهضوا إلی ما أُمروا بإذعان القلب وسعادة السیرة، وجاهدوا في الل ّٰ علی ضعف من المریرة، وما كانوا قاعدین. تبتّلوا إلی الل ّٰ تبتیال، وجمعوا خرة وما ملكوا من آ ال خزائن ا ی ً، وما مالوا إل ال الدنیا فتی َ امتراء المِیرة، وبذلوا أنفسهم ظالل وقَفَوا الملّة، إ شاعة ال رسول الل ّٰ صلی الل ّٰ علیه وسلم حتی صاروا من الفانین. شرَوا أنفسهم ابتغاء مرضاة الرب ّ اللطیف، ورضوا لمرضاته devotees who followed him even more faithfully than his shadow and were more obedient to him than his shoes. Having witnessed his rubies, they forsook the glory and splen- dour of this world. They committed themselves to obey every command with sincere submission and natu- ral goodness. Notwithstanding the adverse circumstances, they strove in the way of Allah and did not sit back idly. They chose to completely devote themselves to Allah, accu- mulating the treasures of the here- after while taking nothing whatso- ever from the wealth of the world. They did not incline to amass worldly provisions. They spent their lives in the propagation of the Faith and followed in the footsteps of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, so much so that their [independ- ent] selves died. They sold their souls to win the pleasure of their Benevolent Lord and for His sake they were content to part with their households and
