110 The commentary of al-Qa si dah COUPLETS 38 and 39 It was then O sun of guidance that you arose on the horizon, To give them light and benevolence with your lustrous face. You were sent by your Lord, the Noble, the Beneficent , At a time when evil and vice deluged. In these two couplets there is a reference to that great revolution that took place during the advent of the Holy Prophet sa , in a nation that was stubborn, ignorant and was the shame of humanity. At this point it is appropriate to quote the address of Hadrat Ja‘far bin Ab i Ta lib which he delivered in front of the king of Abyssinia when the Quraish demanded the return of the Muslim refugees. Hadrat Ja‘far said in a very emotional manner: Your Majesty, our condition was such that we were at the lowest level of ignorance. We used to worship idols. Our language was filthy.
