40 The commentary of al-Qa si dah worldly desires. 2 This was the state of religious leaders. As far as the general public was concerned, they worshipped and obeyed those who disobeyed God and trespassed over His boundaries. Spirituality disappeared altogether. The contemporary religions failed to demonstrate any evidence of a living relationship with God. All fountains of spirituality had dried up. It was under these circumstances that God sent the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa and announced:. . . . .     .  .   We send down pure water from the sky, that We may thereby give life to a dead land, and endow drink to Our creation–cattle and men in great numbers. ( al-Furq a n, 25:49-50) This means that the spiritually dead nation of Arabia would get life from this water. Then All a h went on to say that He would provide this water to such nations as are living the life of animals, and in the same manner, He would provide it to those people who were devoid of civilization and culture. This water would bestow upon them the knowledge of God, and create a spiritual revolution in their lives by developing a relationship with their Everlasting God. Thus, by following the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa , various people 2. . . of whom He has made apes and swine and who worship the Evil One ( al-M a ’idah 5:61 )
