Don’t talk nonsense. Not only do I take the responsibility of protecting this merchandise from these two tribes, but from all the men of the world!” Barr ad was mad with anger! But he thought it was not proper to say anything in the King’s presence and remained quiet. Since ‘Urwah had accepted charge of the merchandise, King Nu‘m a n entrusted him with it and he departed on the journey with his men. Barr ad also left the court and followed, waiting for a chance to exact retribution against ‘Urwah. Both continued their journeys simultaneously. Arriving near Khaibar, Barr ad referred to a book of omens in the isolation of the Valley of Taiman, to decide whether he should kill ‘Urwah or not. While he was busy consulting this book of omens, ‘Urwah arrived by chance and asked him what he was doing.
