•oUR BELoVED MASTER• 98 under debt, buy and set free slaves who were oppressed by cruel masters and fulfill the needs of the needy. Yet his life was extremely simple and unceremonious. He did not eat food of high quality, nor did he adorn himself with precious clothes; he did not have slaves to serve him nor did he have a luxurious lifestyle. His conduct was sympathetic towards all the inhabitants of Makkah. He helped anyone and everyone. If ever there were a quarrel between two people, he would gently moderate the situation and bring them to reconciliation. People had such faith in his trustworthiness that they would give him their possessions to keep and would travel on business to distant lands completely free from care. It was inconceivable that even a penny in the goods entrusted to his care would be lost. People would appoint him as mediator in their affairs; he would always settle their differences with absolute fairness and justice and would never side with anyone unnecessarily.
