Reply to the doubts raised by rashĪd a H mad gangohĪ 539 title of ‘ I s a. Would it not mean that this Ummah is so wretched and unfortunate in the estimation of God that while it can earn the title of the mischievous and disobedient Jews in His eyes, there is not even one individual in this Ummah who can receive the title of ‘ I s a? This was the reason why Almighty God, on the one hand, termed some people of this Ummah ‘the Jews’, while on the other, named one individual ‘ I s a. Some people, out of sheer ignorance or extreme prejudice and in order to deceive, put forward this verse as evidence that Hadrat ‘ I s a, may peace be upon him, is alive: 1 َو ْنِا ْنِّم ِلْهَا ِبٰتِكْلا اَّلِا َّنَنِمْؤُيَل ٖهِب َلْبَق ٖهِتْوَم The meaning they wish to infer from this verse is that Hadrat ‘ I s a will not die until all the People of the Book have believed in him. However, only one who does not possess a thorough understanding of the Holy Quran, or who lacks honesty, will infer such meaning from it. For, this meaning negates a prophecy of the Holy Quran where Allah the Almighty says: 2 اَنْيَرْغَاَف ُمُهَنْيَب َةَواَدَعْلا َو َءٓاَضْغَبْلا ىٰلِا ِمْوَي ِةَمٰيِقْلا And at yet another place He says: 3 َو اَنْيَقْلَا ُمُهَنْيَب َةَواَدَعْلا َو َءٓاَضْغَبْلا ىٰلِا ِمْوَي ِةَمٰيِقْلا The meaning of these verses is, ‘We have caused enmity and hostility 1. And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death ( S u rah an-Nis a ’, 4:160). [Publisher] 2. So We made mutual enmity and hatred their lot till the Day of Resurrection ( S u rah al-M a ’idah, 5:15). [Publisher] 3. And We have cast among them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection ( S u rah al-M a ’idah, 5:65). [Publisher]
