APPE N DI X to B AR Ā H Ī N-E-A H M ADIY YA — PART F IV E 391 absolutely false,1 ٭ for the fact is that all prophecies have been fulfilled, and there can be levelled no such objection against any prophecy of mine that has not been raised by ignorant and faithless people against the prophecies of the former Prophets. If you feared God Almighty, you would understand that your opposition to me is far removed from righteousness. Your reliance is totally on such a ha d i th from among which some are inauthentic and some fabricated, and some from among them are such as you do not understand their true meaning. As against this, my claim is based on insightful discernment. I have such faith in the revelation that has informed me that Hadrat ‘ I s a , may peace be upon him, has died and 1. ٭ Given that, the death of Hadrat ‘ I s a is established from the verse of the Holy Quran ْ فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّیْتَنِی [‘when You did cause me to die’]; and in S a hih Bukh a r i , Ibn ‘Abb a s has interpreted the word َ یْك ِّ مُتَوَف [ mutawaff i ka ] to mean َ مُمِیْتُك [ mu- m i tuka— ‘I shall cause you to die’]; and Sh a h Waliull a h also gives َ مُمِیْتُك [ mum- i tuka— ‘I shall cause you to die’] to be the meaning of َ یْك ِّ مُتَوَف [ mutawaff i ka ] in Fauzul-Kab ir; and it is established from the Holy Quran that َ رَفَع [ rafa‘a —‘He exalted’] comes after توفّی [ tawaff i— ‘death’], for Allah the Exalted, says: ىٰۤسْيِعٰي ْيِّنِا َكْيِّفَوَتُم َو َكُعِفاَر َّيَلِا [‘O Jesus, I will cause you to die a natural death and will exalt you to Myself ’ ( S u rah- A l-e‘Imr a n, 3:56). ] And not یَا عِیْسٰی اِنِّی ْ رَافِعُك َ اِلَی َّ وَمُتَوَفِّیْكَ. [‘O Jesus! I will exalt you to Myself and will cause you to die’]. And taking words of the Holy Quran out of their context at one’s own whim falls under the purview of the verse: َنْوُفِّرَحُي َمِلَكْلا ْنَع ٖهِعِضاَوَّم [They pervert the words from their proper places ( S u rah al-M a ’idah, 5:14)]. And no reliable hadith permits the placing of َ رَافِعُك [ r a fi‘uka —‘exalt you’] before َ مُتَوَفِّیْك [ mutawaff i ka —‘I will cause you to die’] in this verse. Thus, the death of Hadrat ‘ I s a is proven from every aspect. It is also proven that the ‘ I s a who was to come would be from within this Ummah, as [the following hadith of the Holy Prophet s as ] is recorded in Bukh a r i اِمَامُكُم ْ مِنْكُم [‘your Imam from among you’], and in Muslim it is cited as ْ كُم ْ مِنْكُم َّ اَم [‘your leader from among you’].
