B AR Ā H Ī N-E-A H M ADIY YA — PART F IV E 330 His Statement— عفت الدیار محلھا و مقامھا [‘Temporary residences and permanent ones will be wiped out’] is a line from a couplet of an ancient poet. Did any Prophet ever have a revelation which was word- for-word the same as issued forth from the tongue of a human being before that Prophet? My Answer— As I have mentioned before also, the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, himself had such a rev- elation and it was: فتبارك الل ّٰ احسن الخالقین. [So blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators]. This is the sentence that had come out of the mouth of ‘Abdull a h bin Ab i Sara h , and exactly the same descended as the revelation of God. And it was due to this very trial that the unfortunate ‘Abdull a h turned apostate. Making such objections, therefore, amounts to following the thinking of ‘Abdull a h, the apostate, which ought to be avoided. As for the words عفت الدیار محلّھا و مقامھا they form the first line of a couplet of Lab i d, may Allah be pleased with him, a Companion [of the Holy Prophet s as ]. The complete couplet is: مقامھا و محلّھا الدیار عفت فرجا مھا غولھا تا ٔبّد بِمنًی It means that the homes of my loved ones were demolished; there remained no trace of the buildings, neither of temporary nor of per- manent residences. Both kinds of buildings were destroyed. They were located in Min a , which is in the land of Najd. There are two Min a s: a Min a of Makkah and a Min a of Najd. Here the Min a of Najd is meant. The poet then says that there were two towns in that land—one was called Ghaul and the other Raj a m — both of which were destroyed and levelled so completely that there is now a forest in place of these towns where wild animals such as deer live.
