BarĀhĪn-e-a H madiyya — Part Four 62 And We have revealed this Word for a true need and with truth has it descended; meaning that, this Word is in itself true and just, and its descent is also truly needed, not that it has been revealed as redundant, useless, or untimely [ S u rah Ban i Isr a ’ i l, 17:106]. O People of the Book! Our Messenger has come to you at a time when there had been a long break in the advent of Messengers; so, that Messenger, having come after a break in the series of Prophets, informs you of the right path that you had forgotten, lest you should say, ‘We remained in misguidance in vain and no bearer of glad tidings or warner came to us from God to admonish us. ’ Therefore, know that the bearer of glad tidings and warner who was needed, has now come, and God, who has power over all things, having found you in misguidance, has sent His Word and His Messenger [ S u rah al-M a ’idah, 5:20]. You had reached the brink of a pit of fire. So, O believers, God granted you salvation, and thus does He narrate His Sign so that you may find guidance [ S u rah A l-e-‘Imr a n, 3:104] and so that when the chastise- ment descends, the misguided people may not ask, ‘O God, why did You not send a Messenger before inflicting the chastisement, so that we might have followed Your Signs and become believers?’ [ S u rah al-Qa s a s , 28:48] Had God not defeated the misguided through the righteous, and not repelled some by means of others, the world would have been cor- rupted; for, it is God’s grace that when misguidance spreads He sends a guide from Himself, because showing grace and munificence is His practice [ S u rah al-Baqarah, 2:252–253]. And We have sent you so that We may show mercy to the whole world and to open for them the path to salvation [ S u rah al-Anbiy a ’, 21:108], and so that you may draw the attention of people, who are languish- ing in a state of heedlessness, towards the truth and warn them [ S u rah
