BarĀhĪn-e-a H madiyya — Part Four 280 its perfection. 1 Hence, Hadrat Mas ih went to take his seat in the heav- ens, leaving the Gospel incomplete, and it was the same incomplete Book that remained available to people for a long time. But, finally, God revealed the Holy Quran, in keeping with the prophecy of that innocent Prophet, and bestowed upon mankind the comprehensive Law that did not enjoin—like the Torah—‘a tooth for a tooth’ irre- spective of the situation and circumstances, nor did it ordain—like the Gospel—that one must always be ready to be struck by an aggressor. Rather, that Perfect Word draws mankind away from temporary com- mandments towards true virtue. It commands us to do what results in genuine benefit, whether it be harsh or gentle, as He has said: 2 Part Number 25 — َو اُؤٰٓزَج ٍةَئِّيَس ٌةَئِّيَس اَهُلْثِّم١ۚ ْنَمَف اَفَع َو َحَلْصَا ٗهُرْجَاَف ىَلَع ِهّٰللا Meaning that, the principle of justice in the punishment of evil is that the offender deserves to be punished to the extent of the guilt. However, someone who brings about reformation by forgiveness— provided forgiveness does not result in further mischief —he will have his reward with Allah. Likewise, the comprehensiveness and per- fection of the Shariah is indicated in the verse: 3 [ Part Number 6 ] — َمْوَيْلَا ُتْلَمْكَا ْمُكَل ْمُكَنْيِد َو ُتْمَمْتَا ْمُكْيَلَع ْيِتَمْعِن Meaning that, this day I have carried religious knowledge to the stage 1. The explanation given by the Promised Messiah as refers to John 16:12–14 which states: ‘I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
