THE B Ā B Ī AND BAH Ā ’ Ī RELIGION 67 It is interesting to compare the punishments pre- scribed for murder by mistake, which is one hundred misq a ls of gold, while according to B a b for injuring the feeling of another person the penalty is nineteen misq a ls of gold. In other words, fornication is a much minor of- fence as compared with murder by mistake or injuring the feelings of another person. Further it is be noted that anyone who burns down the dwelling of another deserves to be burnt alive. 9. Following in the footsteps of the B a b, Bah a ’ull a h has prescribed that there should be nineteen months in a year ( Aqdas 269). 10. In the sharia manufactured by him, Bah a ’ull a h has made some attempt to remove the defects which are to be found in the sharia prepared by the B a b, although in one place he has said of himself that he himself was responsible for the descent of Al-Bay a n , which would seem to mean that he claims the book was written under inspiration from himself 93. Of the errors which Bah a ’ull a h has sought to remove, four may be mentioned by way of example: (a) the B a b had ordered that all books other than Al-Bay a n were to be destroyed.
