THE B Ā B Ī AND BAH Ā ’ Ī RELIGION 68 B a b can become the root of great conflict in the world, and Bah a ’ull a h has cancelled it; he has written that Allah had forgiven them for what had been written in Al-Bay a n in regard to the destruc- tion of all other books 94. (b) The B a b wrote that the penalty for injuring the feelings of another is nineteen misq a ls of gold. But Bah a ’ull a h has said that in his time Allah had cancelled it. (c) Bah a ’ull a h says it was forbidden in Al-Bay a n for any one to ask any question in regard to it, but Allah had cancelled the order 95. (d) Another inter- esting case is furnished by the following words of Bah a ’ull a h: "Allah had ordained that every one should present himself in the august presence with his most precious thing as a gift, but as a sign of grace we have cancelled this order 96. 11. Out of the penalties prescribed by Bah a ’ull a h for various offences, the one for fornication has been mentioned, while for a person who burnt down the dwelling of another there are two penalties: that he should be burnt alive, or sent into prison for life 97.
