Ahmadiyyah Muslim Jama'at and the Muslims of India [ 20 ] The history of the extraordinary problems that the Muslims had to face during their struggle at that time is extremely painful. In the East Punjab, Muslims were bru- tally slaughtered. To cover all the details of their bloodbath would be impossible and unbearably agonising! But it needs to be known among the sects of Muslims, at the time of the active jih a d , what the roles were of the A h r a r, Jam a ‘at-e-Isl a m i , and Ahmadiyyah Muslim Jam a ‘at. That was not the time for merely jih a d through preaching—it had become the time for physical jih a d , as the time of jih a d with the sword had also arrived. The honour and chastity of Muslim women was being heinously attacked, and chil- dren too were being killed ruthlessly. In short, it is rather impossible to narrate the savagery and brutality that the Muslim caravans suffered. Anyhow, most Muslims are gen- erally well aware of the history at that time, but it is worth mentioning who was in the forefront when the time of physical jih a d in action arrived. I h s a n , a newspaper of the A h r a r (which is closed down now) in its edition of September 25, 1947 reported: Despite the Military’s cruelty and violence against them, the young men of Qadian are not afraid. They are anxious to safely get the women, children and the elderly out of the location. They know very well that death is slowly but assuredly entrapping them.
