Zafrulla Khan He also addresed a letter to the Afghan Legation in London which is reproduced below: "His Excellency The Afghan Minister Afghan Legation, 42, Grosvenor Place, SWI. Excellency, News has been received by cablegram from Qadian, that Nimatullah Khan, a Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Movement at Kabul, has been stoned to death by order of the Afghan Government, for the crime of having accepted the truth of one whom God had. appointed for the regeneration of mankind in the present age. Excellency, to those who are familiar with the teachings of Islam with regard to tolerance and liberty of conscience, the news is bewildering, charging as it does, a ruler who claims to be a Muslim and a Government that is making efforts to be recognised as a Civilised Government, with one of the blackest crimes against humanity, and even the recollection that the Afghan nation has scarcely emerged from a state of savagery does not reconcile one to the idea that they have enough of the wild beast in them to tear to pieces one who happens to possess a higher and a purer conception of his duty to man and God than is entertained by themselves. Excellency, your nation and your monarch do not appear to have profited from the teachings of the Quran, but to you, at least, 124
