Introduction x Later on H u du r himself revised the text of all the four lectures, and made many additions and changes. Realizing that there was a big time lapse between the different lectures with the result that many repetitions had inadvertently found their way into them, he extensively revised the whole manuscript, shortened many passages and deleted many, to spare the reader the botheration of going through unnecessary repetitions, without any loss to the continuity of the subject. The following were some of those who had the honour to work with Hudu r on this project: Munir Ahmed Javed (Private Secretary), the late Pir Muhammad Alam, Mrs. Saliha Safi and Mrs. Fauzia Bajwa. For the English Edition, the first two lectures were dictated anew in English by H u du r himself to Mrs. Farina Qureshi and Mrs. Farida Ahmed. The third and fourth lectures were revised with them and simultaneous revisions to the Urdu lectures were also done in these sittings. I was, by the blessings of Allah, very fortunate to have the privilege and honour of sitting at the feet of H u du r daily for hours on end for many months. In these blessed sessions, H u du r went through the Urdu script of all four lectures—I would read out the script to H u du r, and he, in spite of his illness, would make corrections, revisions, amendments, etc; he would also give me instructions regarding other related matters.
