The Three Creative Principles Defined 13 such a manner that we consider it to be our duty or obligation and not a favour to others. The next part of this verse deals with some traits which a believer should eschew; these traits run counter to the virtues which God requires to be cultivated among the believers. Allah says: … …And He forbids indecency, and manifest evil, and wrongful transgression. He admonishes you, so that you may take heed. (S u rah al-Na h l; Ch. 16: V. 91) Indecency, blatant evil and wrongful transgression are the negative terms used in the Holy Quran, in contrast to justice, beneficence and kindness to one’s kindred. Initially, I intended to speak on the first half of this verse, hoping that the time in today’s address would be enough. But when I started working on it, I was amazed at the depth and the vastness of the subjects covered by this verse. New gates were being opened to me in different vistas, each of which appeared to be a wonderful universe of knowledge and wisdom. Thus I gave up the idea of covering the subject of the verse even partially during this session.
