The Ecosystem 53 that artificial manure used for fertilising soil consists mostly of various ammonium salts. When highly electrically charged rain clouds are carried by strong air currents towards mountains, they break into electrical storms, lightning and thunderbolts, which in turn disintegrate water particles and nitrogen gases in the air into many ammonium salts, enriching the rain or snow. According to some estimates, the entire production of fertilisers in the man-made industry in the world in one year equals the fertilisers manufactured by this process in one hour. A detailed study of all these operations will truly illustrate the wealth of knowledge found in the Holy Quran regarding the blessings of mountains for human life on earth. A verse from Surah Ha M i m al-Sajdah is quoted below: He set therein firm mountains rising above its surface , and placed blessings therein and finely balanced its means of sustenance in four periods—alike for all who seek. (S u rah Ha M i m al-Sajdah; Ch. 41: V. 11) In short, when we observe the manifestations of the laws of nature in the way the affairs of earth and the surrounding heavens are governed, we find perfect unison, coordination and balance.
