The dividing line between man and pre-human forms of life is simply this: man is often in a position to choose freely from the many options available to him whereas animals do not have such options. Whatever options they have are imposed and free will has little role to play. This separates man from lower orders of life. This area of options provides him with distinctive advantages as well as disadvantages in comparison to animals. If man follows and adopts the principle of justice in these areas, he is promised boundless progress.
