— Part III 276 Say, have you ever considered that if he was from God and you had rejected him, while a person from the Children of Israel had testified to the truth of the advent of one similar to him, then while he believed you have rejected him out of arrogance. Verily, Allah does not guide the transgressors. (S u rah al-A h q a f; Ch. 46: V. 11) The Holy Quran refers to many of the followers of Moses as who, with reference to the Bible, had believed that one like Moses as would certainly come. This statement implies that the Jews at the time of the Holy Prophet sa did not only reject him but virtually rejected Moses as as well and those knowledgeable people who followed him. Pointing to the Jews of the Holy Prophet’s sa time, the Holy Quran accuses them of their rejection only because of their arrogance, despite the testimony in his favour being very clear and precise. A similar situation is often observed in the worldly courts. Some judges are fully convinced of the truth of the evidence but others find many excuses to reject the same evidence. They are either sadly mistaken or intentionally corrupt. Both these possibilities applied to some section of the Jews of the Holy Prophet’s sa time. Many of those who were mistaken, ultimately rectified their attitude and finally declared their belief in him. Allah permits the wilful wrongdoers to wander in the wilderness of doubts because of their own wrongdoings. The way the believers are so mercilessly treated
