119 8 The Role of the Three Creative Principles in the Shaping of Religion The principles of justice are also applicable to human conduct in the area of religion. We start our discussion with reference to religion prior to the revelation of the Holy Quran. In other words we begin at the beginning and turn to the first religion ever revealed for the guidance of mankind by God through Adam as. With reference to that elementary teaching, we immediately notice that the features of religion as preserved by the Holy Quran pertain mainly to the mention of social and economic justice. The religion of Adam as seems to have laid down firm foundations for the step by step building of the Divine teachings. With the passage of time they widened in their coverage and moved from the bare discussion of justice to the more sophisticated teachings of I h s a n and I t a ’i Dhil-Qurb a. In short, a definite evolutionary trend is witnessed with different stages of development from the time of Adam as to the time of Prophet Muhammad sa , where religion seems to have reached the ultimate stage of perfection.
