— Part IV 392 natural things and everybody knows how to be kind to one’s own children. The reality is that even in the most advanced societies many children remain deprived of receiving their parent’s kindness. A large proportion of these deprived children suffer from mental illnesses. The parents remain concerned with only their own pleasures and do not pay the children their due rights. According to Hadrat ‘ A’ ishah ra , once a Bedouin inquired from the Holy Prophet sa , 'Why do you kiss children?' (as if it were contrary to manly characteristics). He further added, 'We do not kiss them. ' The Holy Prophet sa responded, 'If Allah has uprooted kindness from your heart, what can I do about it?' 71 Once, a granddaughter of the Holy Prophet sa was in her death throes and his daughter begged him to come. At his arrival she put the child into his lap. The child’s breathing was stertorous. Tears began to flow from his eyes. Hadrat Sa‘d bin ‘Ub a dah ra narrates that he also accompanied him. He inquired, 'O Messenger of Allah, what do we see, why are you shedding tears?' The Holy Prophet sa answered: ' Lo! what you apparently believe to be tears of weakness are signs of Allah’s blessing.
