— Part III 302 And remember the time when Allah took a covenant from the people through the Prophets as , saying : 'Whatever I give you of the Book and Wisdom and then there comes to you a Messenger, fulfilling that which is with you, you shall believe in him and help him. ' And He said: 'Do you agree, and do you accept the responsibility which I lay upon you in this matter ?' They said, 'We agree;' He said, 'Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses'. (S u rah al -e-‘Imr a n; Ch. 3: V. 82) This shows that for future Prophets as to be supported, they must themselves testify to the truth of the previous Prophets as and to the truth of their fundamental teachings. The Book evidently comprises the Divine verses revealed to a Prophet by God. These verses contain all the do’s and don’ts. The word H ikmah (wisdom) refers to discourses of the Prophets as , who teach the underlying philosophy of the do’s and don’ts of the Book. Both these tasks of the Holy Prophet sa are mentioned in the following portion of the verse of Surah Jumu‘ah that he:
